Rainworth is yet another village that "was put on the map" after rapid expansion following the opening of a coal pit. In this case it was Rufford Colliery, opened in the 1890's and closed in 1992. However, many houses continue to be built. The Church of St. Simon & St. Jude stands near the centre of the village, by the crossroads of Mansfield Road, Southwell Road East, Kirklington Road and Warsop Lane. Rainworth is in a team ministry with the village of Blidworth.
