Coal was discovered in the area in 1905 . . . and Forest Town rapidly expanded with St. Alban's Church built to cater for the spiritual needs of the growing population. The coal pits have long since gone, but many houses continue to be built within the Parish. A large industrial estate stands where the main coal mine was situated.
