The Parish Church of St. Mary of the Purification
(originally known as the Chapel of St Lawrence) lies in the original part of the village, west of more recent
developments, on Main Street (now B6020) leading to Ravenshead.
Most of the church was rebuilt in 1740, but the tower is much older. It is said that Will Scarlett is buried in the churchyard!
The traditional ROCKING CEREMONY, in which the male baby born in Blidworth nearest
to Christmas is rocked in a decorated cradle, takes place on the first Sunday in February.
